HI guys

I realise that i personally have not really had much involvement in walan and that i have only been to a handful of event i
still feel as if i need to try and help where i can to get something i have enjoyed for most of my life (being lans) back in
to the eyes of every gamer in perth. We all know that the lan has taken its hits over the years from adsl, mmo games and just
the lack of want to be in a room full of gamers doing what we do best.

Now i know that in a community such as ours it is hard to get that drive back into people without either giving them something or
have to pay for it. With that said in all the other topic that have been posted in this forum (which i know are all from late last year)
i have read countless ideas to get this gaming community back to its strength and give our community a kick ass event.

i personally havent been on this site for quite some time and that is purely because of life changing decisions but i am will
to put my hand up and do what i can to help this community become th force that brings back THE LAN!!!

Where WALAN is now:

The admins all got too busy, and forgot to relinquish control of the event back to the community (as control was relinquished to them from the previous admins), causing the event to suffer from time and effort malnourishment. Refusing to believe this, the admins tried several tactics involving saying lots of nonsense about reformation without ever attempting it, and censoring input from individuals who went against this new status-quo. ;)

TL;DR: rome meets the sith :P

HAI GUISE!

So much for keeping everyone in the loop! Things are moving slowly at the moment, but we're working to put together a new event format that will run every 6-12 months, at 300+ patrons. We're currently negotiating with a venue for rates so we can do this sustainably, and things are looking good.

We're still a way off from a proper announcement and the stages where we can sort out admin team stuff, but we've been receiving a steady influx of emails and phone calls from past admins and lanners who want to help out - so I'm sure we're not going to have any shortage of people to run competitions and man the event. If you're keen on this and haven't already, reply to this thread or drop us a PM/etc.

I'll try and give you guys a weekly update - but feel free to ask any questions :)

All was fair in love and war. Don't hate me for being a pro.

Good to see you still have no clue.

Wow, ad hominem. Never seen that sort of fallacious comment before...

If you're here to enlighten the community on how wrong this opinion (which is fairly reflective of the public consensus) is, then I'm sure everyone who still frequents this forum and/or frequents the more successful Perth LAN events will welcome such a glorious input from an individual such as yourself who is so highly respected across the Perth lanning community.

However, if you're simply here to assert that I'm wrong by ridiculing me, then I suggest you take your logical fallacies (and personal opinions of other posters) elsewhere and allow people to have a mature conversation about the direction WALAN is headed without such needlessly childish input.

With such idiotic comments out of the way, WALAN could perhaps reach a situation in which individuals in the community can offer advice on how the events can be improved - allowing WALAN to, for the first time in several years, maintain a community which does not blindly ridicule it's administration and instead wishes to contribute to improving it's success. :)

Harsh, man. I'm just one of the guys that for every single event I was at did what was asked of me, did what was asked of others when they needed help and went above and beyond behind the scenes to keep the event running for as long as I was able to spare the time to do it.

I'm a rogue because like a black ops man, you don't see the work I did because it was that common: I just got it done with a smile and a bit of happy banter to the patrons while I was at it. :)

When it was on and I was there, from start to finish, the event always came first above all else.

This is exactly what all people who volunteer for a not for profit organisation should be doing.

Didn't quite get to make the first weekly update due to house floodage, so here we go:

Looks like whats left of us is getting together this weekend to get organised team-wise.
The guys we're looking at for securing a venue have finally had time to arrange a face-to-face, so we should get some real headway on this in the next two weeks.
We've had face-to-face with sponsors and have secured sponsorship - now to build on this.

My main concerns at the moment are getting the venue sorted, and once we actually get shit rocking - what people will end up wanting to play - any thoughts on this guys?

If any groups out there are interested in running a comp for a specific game at our event, show us you've got at least two other teams who want to play and drop us an email!

Likewise, and whilst I won't commit to this once we've discussed it properly on the weekend - I think we're changing the way we're getting people on board to help out.
In short this means we should be able to get people on board with less fuss and have less dramas with this stuff.

So if you want to help out at an event, in any way possible - drop me an email at will [at] walan [dot] org.
I'm not sure when we'll get back to you, but it means we've got your details when we do!

Carnnnnnnn then!

Currently looking at Claremont showgrounds for a 300+ person format run every 6-12 months.
We've run several 500+ events at this venue before, and if we can sort out a good price it could be our new home!

When you kill 6 people in Unreal Tournament 3 it's "Monster kill", In Quake III it's "Excellent", in Counter-Strike Source it's "Kicked by console".
